FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TRANSGAS ENERGY PROVIDES COMMUNITY

WITH INFORMATIONAL NEWSLETTER

 Updates Greenpoint-Williamsburg Residents

on Status of Natural Gas Power Facility

Brooklyn, NYTransGas Energy (TGE) has issued “The TransGas Energy Update,” a newsletter that provides important information about the status of the natural gas cogeneration project at One North 12th Street.  The newsletter has been mailed to community groups and residents who have expressed interest in the project, and continues to be delivered by hand to numerous residences and businesses in the community.  It is also available on TGE’s website at www.TransGasEnergy.com

“TransGas is pleased to make our inaugural newsletter available for the community,” said Adam Victor, President of TransGas Energy.  “We welcome community involvement and actively seek local input at every step along the way.”

The inaugural August 2002 newsletter features a number of updates on the project, including TGE’s recent agreement on environmental studies with New York State and New York City; the New York Independent System Operator’s approval of the System Reliability Impact Study; TGE’s filing of an air quality permit with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC); and TGE’s filing of an application under the DEC’s Voluntary Cleanup Program in order to start cleaning the property.  Future newsletters will be released periodically by TGE.

Those interested in receiving a newsletter or placing their name on the TGE mailing list are encouraged to contact TGE by phone at 800-215-2464, or via the TGE website.

After cleaning up the site, contaminated from more than a century as an oil refining and storage facility, TransGas Energy plans to construct an environmentally sound natural gas power plant in this industrial area of Greenpoint-Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  With a capacity of approximately 1,100 megawatts of electricity and 2 million pounds per hour of steam, TGE’s facility will provide clean energy for New Yorkers at lower prices, while allowing some of New York City’s older, heavily-polluting plants to be taken off-line.  The TGE plant is scheduled to be in service meeting New York City’s power needs in 2006.
