·
A
lot of young people, and up and coming people are moving in, and this is
just going to drive these people away. ·
We’re
surrounded by many schools and there is a tennis court by the proposed
plant. It’s an
inappropriate spot. Would like for this land to be used for residential
purposes because we are short on housing.
Nice waterfront houses. ·
Our
waterfront has the potential and the right to environmentally sound
development, such as light industry and housing, not power plants.
This is a foolish use of a precious resource. ·
The
very essence of this power plant would cancel many other redevelopment
projects (housing/commercial) planned for area and would send the local
community back into an economic slide. ·
Would
like the waterfront to be just a park for people to enjoy. ·
The
waterfront belongs to the people of Greenpoint, not to greedy energy
producers. ·
Need
more park fronts instead of power plant to be able to win the 2012 Olympic
bid, create more tourism and rebuild New York at a sensitive time like
now, in image and tourist dollars. ·
What
we need is garden apartments, promenades, maybe a small marina or some
type of forest preserve. There is an inlet there that has been abandoned
over the years that could be part of a joint venture. ·
The
community has a long standing history of yearning and planning for greater
access to the waterfront and should not have to pay such a huge price as a
thousand megawatt power plant, which would not only obstruct the beauty of
area, but would also give us an increase in pollutants. ·
Plant
should go in other location, for instance in East Williamsburg near
Gowanis Canal, and we need to preserve our waterfront for other uses like
recreation. ·
The
plant is a value but not necessarily to us here. The promise of jobs to
Greenpoint is just a carrot on a stick. · Local 197-a plan (plan to help give us some of the park lands and the open spaces) does not include power facility. · Community plans for Bushwick Inlet include waterfront access and open space, and a museum to commemorate the building of the USS Monitor, not a power plant. |
· By replacing Bayside Fuel Oil and its hundreds of truck deliveries with an aesthetically interesting building, we believe we will improve the character of the waterfront and not hinder any other development that is planned. In addition, TGE is prepared to contribute funds to improve the waterfront based upon ideas acceptable to the community. For example, TGE would contribute towards restoring and repairing the facilities at the Bushwick Inlet so it could be used for recreational purposes and/or a Monitor museum. TGE will study the extensive soil contamination at the site. The contamination could make it unlikely that a park, garden apartments or homes could be built at this area, were Bayside Fuel Oil to sell its operation. ·
With
respect to job creation the Application will detail the primary and
secondary economic growth effects due to constructional operation of the
Plant. The job opportunities
are real.
